Agreed most of my days here in SE are pretty small finds. Today's was bunch of pulltabs and 3 nickels.

However I did happen to get one of those DOH's today.

Was at a former swimming hole. The owner turned it into a nice looking yard and a partial firing range for his family, one a cop. In order to make the former parking hill more level he had pulled out many scoops of his small gravel/sand public swimming pool and leveled it across the ground.

As it turns out the rain uncovered and showed him something. Today I saw it. He showed me, and it turns out that I was within one foot of it when I gave up because I was tired of digging up brass casings.

18K very large mens ring, was bent but he straightened it out. He didn't even know I was digging up in that area, just noticed something odd while firing last week and Voila. Ring's weight was 1/2 ounce.

Oh well thats one find I was better off not knowing how close I came. Sure would have been one heck of a nice first gold ring.
