Found a huge chunk of Petrified wood today! I was looking for arrowheads in a dry creek bed . Has anyone ever found any petrified wood in or around arrow heads? Or am I just barking up the wrong tree . In east Texas Caddos were prevalent.

I have a ranch in central Texas, and yes.. there is quite a bit of petrified wood and Native American artifacts found along the same creek. Not sure that there is any connection between the two though.

That is a mighty fine looking piece of petrified wood you are holding!

Here is a nice chunk I picked up years ago and now have in our garden.

In north east Texas, they are almost always found together. Petrified wood was the only rock in the area that would fracture concoidally so was used extensively for tools and arrowheads there. In fact, any points found in the area made of other materials were almost certainly trade goods.

our families home place is in Milam county south east of Waco, lots of petrified wood there, many pieces 18 + inches long and 10 inches in diameter. Have found arrow heads and what appeared to be a scraper of some sort.

Thanks y'all ! I'm going to go back to that spot tomorrow . We just had a BIG rain I'm curious to see what pops up . I think it might be a good day for searching for relics from the past. I always heard after a big rain things appear, and points just stick up. I know there is petrified wood there so it won't be a wasted trip .

Hey firemac, my family has some land in Milam county as well, in Milano and Rockdale. I myself live around Bryan/College Station and my property contains some massive and I mean massive pieces of petrified one, one piece is well over 8ft long and there are many petrified trunks weighing several hundred pounds in the creek beds near me. I have no idea what to do with any of them though. The creeks they are in are dry but the sides are steep and generally taller than 10 feet.

Found plenty of petrified wood today! 1 Huge piece that I'm going to have to wench out . I had no luck finding any Indian artifacts in that spot, yet.

image-3799264249.jpg the shot was taken on the side of a hill on the creek

Think I'm going to look further down. I still think there's something more in this area .
