Old silver ring stamped 14K?

Hit a local swimming hole this morning since it was hot as **** over here the past couple of days. Sucks that they dont allow water detecting but atleast I can hit the sand part. Found the usual clad, actually a bit more then usual ($7.83) and this little gem of a ring right at the waterline. It was @ 8" or so in the nice black sand/mud layer. Gave a really irregular hit on the ATP, bounced all around on the VDI but every so often gave a nice high TONE. (Listen to your machines, dont trust the VDI...) No scratchiness around the tone like foil...
Anyways, I dug the signal and was rewarded with the amethyst ring. Immediately took it for silver and pouched it.
Here's the question mark though. Got home and straightened it up as best as I could. That is when the stamp revealed itself. Took a closer look and to my eyes it says 14K???
Took a picture of the stamp through a 40x loop and would like to know what you guys think.
It tested negative with the 10 & 14K acid solution and positive on silver. So obviously its silver but why the 14K stamp if that is what it is? I did not find any other stamps on the ring.

But hey, atleast the wife was pleased... :-)
HH
Mike

My heart got broken last week when I found a pendant and clasp of a "royal flush" hand. It weighed 13.2g 14k Mexico stamped! I thought I found my first gold---only to test it to be FAKE! What a bummer! When is my Delta 4000 ever going to show me my money in gold? When?

My big silver colored mans' ring, with a "diamond" zircon in it, is stamped 18k, and is NOT! :BangHead:
I also have a "rolex", stamped 18k, but when it was opened, it says, "Made in Shitterand". :BangHead:
Jeweler said that was the Chinese idea of a joke. I didn't think it was funny.
Better luck next time & HH!

BTW Fynn74.... It is a nice find though, antique....silver....Amethyst....very unique. My birthstone is Amethyst so I would have loved finding that. But I understand the feeling of thinking and seeing one thing, but being let down with a "lie".

I generally count on my jewelry finds being junk until proven otherwise-- been disappointed too many times thinking the big lunker with all the pretty stones was more than just a gumball ring!

Doesnt matter what it is, as lomg as your wife likes it and is happy. If it was made out of aluminum foil and she wore it and smiled, smile back as your winning.

at a glance, it looks like it says 14k but maybe it's just the pic, in a way it doesn't look like it says '14k', but rather some weird symbols.

Had my delta 4000 for three years and still no gold. Funny. I've found plenty of vdi 58 nickels and of course pull tabs but no gold. Now consider I hunted as a child with my dad and through a few spells before becoming fanatical. Never found gold.
Oh well. Keep diggin.
