Lately I haven't been having much luck with my sites. So I have turned my attention to a local river bank. Due to lack of rain the river has declined to a trickle. I wasnt expecting to find much but I was wrong. Here's a sampling of my finds. 1873 Indian head penny, two crotal bells, a dandy button, clay pipe shards, marbles, a broken stir up, and best of all a 1949 10 k class ring. I have found many objects an many coins over the years but the gold wring is a first!

That ring and cool relics like that are the reason we all do this! Such a thrill. Even if someone gave you a ring like that there is no comparison to working hard and finding something with history you can only hope to unveil. Very nice find!

Nice finds!!

Check the name of the school and see if it's still in existence, if so they may have a list of the graduates for 1949, compare the list with the initials on the inside of the ring, that will get you started, from there research the name found and or surviving family members.

Also if you post the info here (Name of school, initials, which are not clear in your pictures) some of the members are very good at tracing people down!!

Thank you for the info. Sorry my photo skills are quite terrible. The school is still in existence I actually graduated from the same school. The school is the gilbert school in winsted ct. And the initials are ffw. I fear that the ring might have been lost durring the flood of 55 which completely decimated the town. I'm thinking this might have been how the ring was lost.

The Gilbert School's website was of no help, but I found this website and I think I found your man, "Fred F. Williams", here's the site I got this info from.

Gilbert School class of 1949

The page with your possible ring owner's name on the list of the class of 1949, e.g. "Classmate list".

Classmate Roster

The page from the yearbook with a picture of Fred F. Williams.

Untitled Document

From the same site listed above, here's a possible address and phone for Fred F Williams, hopefully this info is still current, I'm not going to copy and paste this info, just click on the link and scroll down the list until you find Fred's name listed for the info.

Classmates Address

Here's some more info and possible next of kin on Fred F. Williams from Winsted Ct.

Au seeker thanks so much for the info. It's amazing to see the face that owned the ring. I will now try to contact him.

Awesome research help, AU. Relic Dude I have a couple of sites that are only searchable in the fall in severe drought conditions and when I can get to them, produce some great stuff. Seems like you found a similar one. Keep hitting it, there is probably a lot more there.

Congrats on your finds! Keep that ring, sold my first ring I found a 1934 class ring and regret it to this day. Love the marbles. That is of course if you decide not to tty to return to owner. My owner passed and could not track any family.

Thanks everyone. I have tried calling the owner but only got a voice mail. I hope he gets back to me. Or I'll try again I just hope he doesn't think I'm a scam artist or a creep.
