Hello everyone! Got out on the 12th to do a little relic hunting since it has been raining for a week solid around here. It was very windy and cold (20 degree wind chill) but this nice little copper half cent warmed me right up. At first I was unsure what I had, but after looking at it under my jewlers loop in the field, I noticed some details and identifiers. According to my research, this coin was only minted from 1794-1797 (Liberty Head facing right with the bee hive behind her head). I have been on a copper role for the past few months now and my research keeps paying off for the early sites. My silver streak continues with the 1939 G. Washington Quarter. Got a few buttons, umbrella pieces, buckle, old round ball, and lead seal. Barber Quarter found by my friend Wild Bill. Thanks for looking and HH to all!

Those Liberty Cap Halfs do not show up very often. That's a very nice find Wes. Congrats on a great hunt

Congrats on the half cent Wes. I found a 1794 last year that iron patch was able to help date. One year is thicker than the others and there's some wording around the edge of some of them?? Hopefully he'll chime in and help you date it. sweet find!

Great find. Just found my first liberty cap half cent and one cent a few weeks ago. Never heard a bee hive. Always thought it was a hat that represented freedom.

correct Greylock , not a beehive . It is called a "mob " French design for cap on the Liberty pole . I was almost killed when I stood on a hive this summer . Bee hives suck unless they are honey bees .

Thanks CM for the correct information on this coin. I wish it was in better shape but like all coppers we do find around here most are toasted beyond help. I am gratful that I can at least see some detail.

Congrats on that early copper Wes. It's been a long time since I came home with one of those. That looks like a pewter musketball too. You guys did well.
