🥇 BANNER 11.9 Grams of 14k Gold

Found this detecting in the woods yesterday. It's about 2 1/2" long with some kind of outdoor scene on one side. I couldn't find any other markings on it so I had it tested. Turned out to be 14k gold. Any comments on what it is or how old it is are appreciated.

You have to ask yourself, what would people carry around in 14k gold..? Would they carry pencil lead in 14k gold ? Would they carry toothpicks in 14k gold or matches... Haha, I don't think so... You don't find these things in silver very often let alone gold. I was going to say perfume or snuff... Seeing how it looks perfume would leak out I'm going with snuff... (Does it hold water or does it leak?) Although its not the right size, 2.5 inches is about as long as a wooden match or pencil lead. I don't know its an amazing piece. I'm going to give you a banner vote for sure !!

It looks like a match safe.

Did you take a loop and look at the clasp. Sometimes the makers mark is there.

Yeah, I checked it. No marks of any kind.

Finally got a chance to hit this site again. Managed to pull a couple more goodies. The sterling spoons were less than ten feet from where I dug the gold container. The mercs and the buff were pulled from another part of the site.

What an amazing find, would class this as one of those "Hooked on Detecting for Life !!" findings ! Banner worthy item, don't know how I missed seeing this post earlier ! I've been fortunate to get some good finds but this one gives me hope that there is more great items out there still and I just need to get my coil over the right spot !!!

Well , Finally this one makes BANNER !!! This was a very worthy candidate indeed (wonder why it took so long ?) After seeing this again
and seeing some later posts - I am leaning toward chatelaine needle case or Mezuzah (my original guess ) I base these upon the rather
small size - I think too small for snuff , too narrow for matches( and there is no scratch plate for the striker) . If the imagery is seen as
not feminine enough, that would not discount the Mezuzah theory . The proximity to the synagogue where it was found is part of my
bias here too . Congratulations on making Banner !!!!!!!!!!!!!

How about an ornate men's sealing wax case? I've seen the same size and shape- and w/o a 'scratcher' it can't be a vesta case. Just a guess. Beautiful-- congrats on the banner! Yakker
