Just picked this up for $25. Seemed too good of a deal to pass up. Seems to work well. I have to download an instruction manual for it. Bought it so my brother can go detecting with me sometime.

Gotta' love those sweet deals.

That thing can potentially pay for itself in a matter of minutes or hours.

After that it's pure fun and pure potential.
Congrats on a nice find and nice deal.

******EDIT/Addendum*******

I just looked up that machine and from the reviews I have read you got a real steal.

That's a nice detector. It's supposedly pretty sensitive as far as ground balancing goes but for someone who knows what they're doing it should perform very well.

I saw one on Craigslist a few weeks ago for 100 bucks. The ad wasn't up for more than a couple of days before someone snagged it at 4 times what you paid. That should tell you something.

Do you have any idea how old it is??

My Father in Law who seems to have a disdain for buying anything new hit a home run a couple weeks ago. He goes to a lot of yard sales and auctions looking for deals/steals and he found one. At an auction they had a Whites Spectrum XLT with a coil. Nothing else included. He was the high bidder at $17.00 He called me to ask where you put the batteries and I had to explain that he needed to buy a battery pack that holds 8AA batteries. Well he grumbled because that cost him just over $19.00 with shipping. He called to say that when he turned it on it fired right up and was working fine. Only problem is a couple lines on the screen which I told him could be repaired. So a White's XLT for under $40, not too shabby.

Why can't I find deals like that? Great score!

Watch Craigslist.
In my area there are deals every day. You get the most hits under the search term "metal detector" in the singular.

Garrett424...it seems to have some age to it. I have not looked into it's actual age. I'm not sure how to find out how old it really is...the serial number maybe?

Thanks AU Seeker. This should help, as this machine is a little different then my AT Pro.

The 4900 dl max was the last issue of the 4900 before going extinct, like the 5900 and the 6000xl. There was about 4 models . You CAN NOT get some parts for these models so taking it to a whites repair is out. Just sold mine for 50$ bucks as can't get parts any more. The best model of the 4900 was the one with the hot rock accept and hot rock reject on it as u could look in coal klinkers for rings etc . jmho rwd mo.

Sounds like the best place to start.

I would email the serial and model #'s to the manufacturer or call them.
I'm sure they can easily tell you when and where it was built as well as answer any questions you may have about it.

Still have the 15" inch coil I got for it. Now using Whites M6.
