Thank you very much for your input! I had also found the same page. The funny thing is the buttons, although French, are on a British coat. Apparently, according to the family who donated it, the wearer wore it at Waterloo. He's modified it himself in various ways.

Any backmarks on the reverse of the buttons?

Is it one piece? Looks 2 piece in the picture, which would place them later than Waterloo.
