On Sunday, the weather had warmed up enough for me to head back to the site where I’ve been finding the British Military hardware. I hunted here for 2.5hrs and made some interesting finds! My first find was a sterling silver spoon bowl & shaft marked “Sterling Pat 1891 Mermod.Jaccard.Co.” Then not 10’ from where I found the spoon bowl I found a sterling silver spoon handle inscribed ‘M’ and stamped “J. G. J. & Co”. Through online research, I was able to discover that this spoon was imported from England and sold in Toronto from 1830 – 60. Unfortunately, these two pieces are not a match, which hopefully means there are at least two more pieces of silver out here! I also found a flat button and four more Isaac Campbell Knapsack Hooks; this makes 17 for this site so far! :o

I'd like to get back for another hunt this week as the temperatures are predicted to stay above freezing, but this also makes for very muddy work. I also included a picture of all the aluminum trash I dug in the 80 – 81 range, this is the reason why I found the ‘coin silver’ spoons that also hit in the same range! :laughing7:
Thanks for looking and hope you all have a great Thanksgiving weekend, :occasion14:
Dave

PS. Here are a couple of pics of the spoons after 4hrs of tumbling.
I'm thinking about making the shaft of the 'decorated spoon' into a ring for my 11 year old daughter. :icon_scratch:

Congrats on the two silver "ware" pieces Dave! If not this year, maybe next year will find you finding the mates to these two pieces and some more surprises along the way!! The other fun part of what we do is the research of what we find!!!

Old silver, niceeeeeeeeeeeee.
Thanks very much Brad! :occasion14:

I find the silver plated a lot but still hoping for the real deal some day. Congrats.

This is the first time for me finding silver cutlery, in fact I almost swallowed my gum when I saw the word 'Sterling'! :laughing7:

Thanks for your post and for the words of support IM!
Just this past Sunday I went back and found the foundations to an old barn in the corner of the field I've yet to detect... so you never know!

Best of luck to you,
Dave

That is a real nice decorative spoon handle! The great thing about silver flat ware is there's a lot more of it, more weight more value!
Hopefully you can sneak in more hunts before that four letter words shuts us down!

I just wimped out and used silver cleaner on the spoon bowl I found a while back. The first complete silver spoon I ever dug I first thought it was a bracelet because the handle was so ornate.
Silver in any shape is great!

GL. And HH while we can!
