Found 1 yesterday and 1 Today...What is it?

Does anyone have a clue about these pieces? I found an 1854 LC and Remington "NUBLACK" shot gun primer casings they date from 1905-1938. At least that is some time frame to work with.

If I am allowed to guess I would say "gas lamps"
Gas was piped in homes for lighting.

I think "Hooked" nailed it. I was thinking steam apparatus but gas lamp seems much more likely. Not too diff from this one.
