Went out to a park today, to do some metal detecting.
I watched peiople on youtube once metal detecting this area, so i figured i'd go and see what they've missed.
First few signals i dug were old rusted bottle tops.
Then I got a nice strong signal in the 80s and out pops up this round disk.
I thought to my self, i think it's a coin, but then though it's probably a sports medal or something like that.

After that i got another signal and dug, and what do you know, it was a silver ring stamped 925. :D
when i came back home i decided to do a little cleaning on the copper disk I found. turns out it is likely a 1797 Penny or cartwheel penny.

It does have the "cartwheel" rim.

That does look like a cartwheel, and if so that's a great find. It's rare to see one recovered here in the US, especially in Virginia.
