Received new permission today to hunt a field that goes back 300 years of continuous farming..
I did a quick walk through just to see what would pop out.
I found some early buttons, there are 2 that i have never seen, any help on dating them would be great.
1 looks like a blow hole, except no holes and the top is black?
Any idea would be appreciated.
Lots of lead, and balls.
The only coin i pulled out was a sheild nickle, that was 7inch down,
The rest were just 2 or 3 inch under, even the musket balls were on top.
Got to love plowing.
Enjoy the pics and please chime in.
George
Ps the last pic is of a USA button, but there is enough left for a proper idea! !! Lol.

Those are some pretty old looking pewters. Your one brass is probably an 1800's because of the size? Yes?

Could be a hammered Spanish in that field fo sho. The broken 2 piece is pretty early I think. 1700-1750 I guess. Not sure about the blow hole type without holes.

There was a guy at the GPAA metal detecting and treasure show in San Diego in Jan or Feb that was selling books on treasure symbols interpretation. Perhaps GPAA would have a record of who sold at this show. It was in Del Mar, CA. Then you could call him and order one of his books. Old issues of Gold Prospector Magazine might have a number in them to contact them. D

Thanks Dave. .
I know about that one..lol

Must be nice to have fields plowed. They never do that down here. Both of those buttons appear to be 1700s so hopefully some colonial coins will start to show up soon. Nice, productive scouting trip George.

Thanks Bill,
They don't normally plow anymore.
Just slit and seed.
Got lucky on this one.
Will see what else turns up.

When we get into a pocket of early buttons like that it's pretty common for a military to show up... it's just tough coming up with the 1700s sites now.
