I truly enjoy finding old iron relics, some how they make my day as finding an old coin but you can find old coins any day, but an old interesting iron relic, they are all different and they make a great display. The lid is off maybe a stove, the dial is off an old stream tractor I think & of coarse the axe. I have found several over the years, they seem to be a little different to each other,, I think this one is from maybe the 1880s time frame. I know there are other iron nuts like me out there. I just use a wire wheel to take off the rust, then I wipe the iron down then I use an oil, some times if the relic is really old and flaking, I heat the item up and melt wax into the metal and let it cool, this helps keep the iron from breaking down even more.
