"POD" button and "R" token found
My WONDERFUL wife let me slip out for a few hours this morning on Mother's Day.
Gee, she's a great woman. I hit a few new schools briefly, and found a few items besides the clad. One of the schools looks to be at least from the 1960's, so I plan on hitting it a lot more down the road.
Can anyone ID these two items?
*A button (?) that has "POD" on the front with a man with one arm extended. The back says "Superior quality" on it. Is this possibly "Post Office Delivery"?
Any idea of the age?
*A token that has a big "R" in the center on the front & back.
One side reads "Awarded for skill" , and the other side reads "Token has no cash value or trade value".
Any ideas?
Oh yeah, I found another modern token too. Not a Chuck-E-Chese, but an Adventure Landing amusement park token.
Thanks for looking.
Have a great week,
MM

Re: "POD" button and "R" token found
After I posted I did a bit of Googling and found this info on the POD button:

Used from 1893 to 1970. Doesn't exactly narrow it down now, does it?

Sounds like you have a very sweet wife....what are the chances of getting her addicted with the rest of us? Looks like you had a good time there! Cool button! I like the token though! Thanks for sharing! Cyndi

I don't think she will ever get hooked on this hobby. The only time she leaves the house is when she goes shopping with my daughter. Besides, after 25 years together, this is my only freedom.
Thanks,
MM
P.S. She does like gold panning in the NC mountains when we go up, so I have to give her credit.

Re: "POD" button and "R" token found
The token is an arcade or pinball token, and is listed in the "Mfgr. Stock Initial Tokens" section of Alpert & Smith's book, Video Arcade, Pinball, Slot Machine, and Other Amusement Tokens of North America. The same design was produced with various other letters in the center. Some collectors believe it to be one of the many c. 1930's-40's Minnesota pinball tokens produced by the Northwestern Stamp Works of St. Paul. However, documentation is lacking.
