Is that a 1981 Bell Huey military helicopter seat?

From what I've been told, yes it is! Just found this at a yard sale yesterday for $4! I just could not pass it up! I just thought you all might like to see it. Supposedly, the helicopter was decommissioned on October 22, 1982.

The seat is either for the pilot or co-pilot. I believe the date painted on the seat is when it was installed. The Huey was designed in the late 50's. My 1st duty station was at Ft. Campbell KY. I was the parts clerk for Co. D, 158th Avn Bn. All day everyday you could hear the familiar sound of these (WHOP, WHOP WHOP WHOP). We had Hueys when I got there and were the 1st unit to get the UH60A Blackhawk in the late 70's.

Wow. That's a cool story. That must be special being the first unit to get Blackhawks!
Would you say the helicopter this seat came off of is decommissioned by now, or do they last a while?

Probably so, but who knows, some National Guard unit might be using it. The Marines still use their versions of both the Huey and Cobra models.

The Hot Rod crowd will buy them off ya all day long for a pretty penny. The older ones go for even more.
