🥇 BANNER CRAZY 73 OLD SILVER COIN SPILL

I just got in the door and so excited to post this that i didn't even rinse and check the dates of the coin spill. Ive been wanting a US silver for along time and now i have some. I see standing liberties and barbers in the mix.i will post more pictures and dates later when I'm done cataloging all of them. They are mostly all quarters with some dimes and five cent pieces mixed in. I thought i wouldn't top my 26 silver Newfoundland coin find a awhile back but i did. They all were in a small area on a old driveway and the ground was packed hard. Took me two hours to dig them all out. At a quick glance they look to all be from late 1800's to late 1920's. I'm happy that this thread can me back up after reading through it again it seems to me that not enough attention was paid to the fact that no nickel or copper coins were found . This lends credence to the cache idea i think. Definitely. what my detecting dreams are made of !

Better yet how did so much US coinage get there? Was there broken glass mixed in at all? Could have been in a mason jar and may be more! I would build a sifter and sift that whole area ..... Probably more there is my guess. Looking forward to unraveling the mystery.

American coins have been used as currency in Nova Scotia for years. Its still common to find them in your change. You can use them here to pay for things and no one cares. We did a lot of trade with the USA in the past. Small boats went across to New England often so USA coins are not rare here even the older ones.

I couldn't call it a "pocket spill" but because of how they were scattered and then especially after another 20 were found feet away I had to call it a "spill". Perhaps it was a cache and they were altogether in something at one time but in its type of location no farm plow or anything like that could've disturbed it. Forever a good mystery. I was told a store was ran out of the long gone old house that was once on the property so a good chance all the money came from there! [emoji106]

It also explains the coins being in the road. There was a cache in the house. It was razed and the property somewhat bulldozed. The cache fell apart as the property was being hauled or pushed down the road.

Roads or driveways are the only way in and out with equipment and debris. I hope one day to find something similar.

Well it happened a long time ago and I never separated the lot. Keep them all in a display together. I even kept them in there original shape all tarnished up. Bad picture but here’s my 3 big silver spills in the display! [emoji16]

Here’s the list from the 73 coins...

... and here’s from the 20 more coins found about six feet beside it and that I think was part of it as well. Just not found the same day...
