I saved up every cent this year to get me the Deus as a birthday present. I failed 2 months but the first hunt with the new machine was great tho. I did the adjacent field to a big roman site where we found signs of activity this spring. And we were not wrong!

Loads of trash as usual, lead shows that there ismore hidden. A couple modern coins, topped with a Prussian 1864 Silbergroschen. Buttons, lead seals, buckles, Swastika Ring...and the Romans were nice too. Part of a Knee Brooch, bottom of a Samian vine bowl with makers stamp, bronze pin of some sort. Only two coins but those are killer!
Silver Denarius of Augustus. AUGUSTUS DENARIUS, 27 BC-14 AD. AR Denarius (18mm, 3.92 g, 1h). Lugdunum (Lyon) mint. Struck 2 BC-AD 12. Laureate head right / Gaius and Lucius Caesars standing facing; shields and spears between; simpulum and lituus above.
And a rare Sestercius of Marc Aurel 161-180AD in top condition. Have to find an exact match...
My personal best find of the day is the head of a dog figurine with a ball in the catch.

Whoa, killer sestertius!!!

Marcus Aurelius was a pretty awesome guy, I've red his "Meditations" and it's some top-notch wisdom.

Cracking hunt for sure! Liking the relics and coinage which are top notch. What age would you say the dog head would be?

Your going to love the deus, I hope you got the 11" coil, if not start saving again....

We both know you unlikely to ever bett a better example Ses, one I would have been proud to add to the album. The silvers pretty good to.

As for the animal head, I'm not sure what to make of it, not seen a British version??

Nice hunt Lu! Did you just have a really good area to hunt or is it the new machine? Good luck.

I thought it was Mars, but I waited for Dads ID:

It is a RIC Vol III 1352 B(a) AD159-160

Obv AVRELIVS CAESAR AVG PIIF Head Bare Right
Rev TR POT XIIII COS II S C Mars advancing right holding spear and trophy

In Sears Vol II (2002) it is Sears 4820 (except that is a 1352A (CAES version) valued at F £60 VF £150 EF £450.

:notworthy: Silver Romans are always a welcome sight, and that's a real nice one  But the Bronze Sestertius is a show stopper, especially in that condition.

Thanks! For what i know he was more a philosopher than an imperor. Ok, he had at least 14 kids so he must had other skills too....:laughing7:

Thanks Pepperj, i have no idea where to start with the dogs head. It's too old to say it's a modern figurine, but i can't find a Roman match. It's detailled like roman craftsmanship. :dontknow:

I'm loving it already! Yes, i bought the bigger coil, i like to cover a bigger area and i have personally seen the capabilities of this coil in difficult situations...
And i know what beauty that Ses is. I know from the landowner that this part of the field was pasture into the 90s. The lack of fertilizer helped this coin for sure.

Hi Tim, i never expanded the search to this part of the field. It has lots of tile fragments and foundation stones, but misses the huge amount of pottery the main area has. I can't tell for sure with the detector. It's a learning curve, we'll see...

Thanks SS! The Sestercius popped out into the sunlight and i knew it was a beaut. The little dark crustification fell right off after soaking in soapy water with the help of a toothpick.
