Took a drive today to check on some public farm land. The field I was hoping to detect is still planted. Fortunately the corn field across the street was good to go. Found the buckle about 4 inches down. Makes me wonder how many times it dodged a plow blade. I found the button about 3 feet from the buckle at about 6 inches down. First time finding a button like this, feels heavy, maybe pewter? Not sure. Thanks for looking. HH

Nice finds! I've never heard of public farmland. What is it?

State land that they lease to farmers. Once it's been harvested it reverts back to public use land.

Nice finds. You appear to have the tongue and chape to an old colonial buckle. It would have been in the center of a larger buckle frame.

Wow, what a strange concept. No farmer over here would agree to that!

The button looks like a Lead-Alloy which would make it 18th C, but the shank look wrong.
