When your on fire its hard to put yourself out, I had problems sleeping last night, like a kid at X-Mas!

Cru'Dad & I did 4 hours yesterday & I did 4 hours on my own today. Yesterday Cru'Dad took the glory with the Vespasian Denarius & Celtic Copper Core, with my hammered coming in pretty close...
Today I got my oldest Denarius but Cru'Dad still keeps his lead by 1 year!
What a field this is turning out to be after a deeper plough.

Outstanding finds !! The Carausius is a nice piece for the type too. Thank you for posting the better pic of the Julius Caesar denarius. Those seldom encountered.
Continued good luck for you and your father,
Phil

That's a big-time coin day Cru. Love the silver, but many of those Romans have excellent detail.

Cru,

Good score on all the coins....must have been a beehive of activity there back in the day.

Insane finds Cru! That King George III 1772 coin weight is awesome... and those counterfeit half crowns are really cool. Always fun to see those Roman finds you dig up.... I wouldn't have been able to sleep either. Ha

I'm sure Cru is primarily focusing on putting himself onto Roman sites, so that's the type of artifacts he usually finds with an occasional newbie thrown in. Its the exact same way for me since I'm only interested in colonial sites, and therefore dig little outside of that period unless an early site was occupied into the 1800s.

Vicky Silver are a pretty rare find for us, just the odd random one. I'm not even sure where I would go If I wanted some. Maybe an old park or Victorian fair ground, not my area of focus.

I got the Carausius yesterday & when that screamed out the soil, I knew anything goes with such big coins still about.

When that Julius Ceasar came out today, I had no idea who it was. I knew it must be BC & thought it was maybe provincial.

Clearly an early site, that started in about 100BC & had early connections with the Romans, either through trade, or?? I think its farm related, as its a satellite to a nearby Roman Villiage. If not farm it was some kind of settlement that provided for the Villiage in some way. But doesn't seem industrial.

Great looking coinage and nice going on the JC! Liking the little strap end, I would of been fooled seeing the little circles on it, thinking it was something else like Saxon.

How rare is the Caesar ?

The coin itself is not classified as rare, or very rare etc. However, its about 100 years before they invaded Britain, so the chances of finding one are very slim. Its my first JC in 29 years detecting, Cru'Dad was lucky to get a different JC in 2007. Also, its not very worn for 100 years of use before loss, so maybe it was early trade.
