Got out for a few hunts the last few days. Nice be able to dig in February. First and second photos are yesterdays finds. Hit a favorite park with some friends. I like finding Indians and these 6 bring me up to 45 so far this year. The star of the show to me was the 1869 seated dime. I love finding seated and if I didn't find anything else yesterday it would have been a great day. Also came up with a small gold child's ring, a silver Roosie and small silver religious medal. The day before I hit a closed golf course that was opened about 1920. Place has been pounded, but tried a slightly different area. Came up with a bunch of silver and couple of surprises. It was only the second Indian to come out of this place and the 1911 V nickel was in the same hole with the 1940 Washington. Never thought of them circulating together, but I guess they did. Reason I probably found it is the signal on the CTX was 6 - 27. I know a lot of guys who would pass that signal. I dig most of them if they're deep enough. The gold coin I found last year read 1 - 21. A lot of guys would have passed that too. Both were deep and so I dig. The last photo was a small park I just started hunting in the Bronx. A lot of people don't like detecting in the Bronx and for good reason. You have to know the territory. This park has given up more than 15 pieces of silver since I started hunting it and it's a small park. I figured I'm finding so many wheaties there (more than 70 so far) there has to be silver. I pulled up a few more the other day. HH

Is it just me or does it seem like not many 1860's seated coinage gets posted on here? I see many 1850's and 1870's but yours just got me thinking.

So hey, you had a great day! Is that 1864 Indian a fat or thin one? Congrats on a great February hunt

I think you're right Scrappy. Food for thought. Everyone knows the 1916D Merc dime is rare. They made less of the 1869's that I found. Most of the 1860's are scarce to very rare. They actually made more 1853 dimes than all the years combined in the 1860's. It makes sense you don't see many. When I first saw the date I knew it was a good one.

The 1864 is the normal bronze one.

You definitely had a heckuva nice hunt. There are more really good finds in your post than I am used to in 2 or 3 hunts

Nice finds. Pulled 15 seated from a 1870's-80's fairground site recently. Not one from the 1860's. Mostly 1854-56 and 1874-77

Seems to be the same around here although quite a few 1853's turn up as well as 1890-91.
