Well I thought I would try for some more capbadges on the Dump field & got a couple (that I need again).

A hallmarked silver ring - Birmingham - 1894

Star find - A coin which has been on my top 5 wish list for years:

Julius Caesar silver Denarius - dated 49-48BC - 100 years before the conquering of Britain.

Julius was the first to invade Britain but failed. Looking at the coin it has 100 years of wear & although minted in Rome came over in the late 1st century AD.
See better example:

THIS IS OUR FIRST ROMAN 'BC' COIN - WHOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOO :o :o ;D ;D

Congrats on the JC Elephant Denarius! A valuable coin in any identifiable condition!

Regards,

Gunner

Out of interest, as I never sell anything, what figure would you put on it? Seems in too smoother condition to fetch much?

Re: <<<HIT THE JACKPOT>>>

I went and looked for a gold Stater, got rained out, went back after the rain to a church. Found a key and some trash in the church yard, an older Gent came by and asked what I was looking for, after some conversation he said the church yard where I was detecting was a graveyard, grass now, and he could remember the iron crosses that used to be there. Gack! I don't do grave yards unless they are plowed fields, LOL! I left, it was a short hunt. No gold stater. On the up side, the farmers here have started harvesting winter wheat, can't wait to get back on the fields. HH, Mike

Re: <<<HIT THE JACKPOT>>>

Thanks for all the nice comments.

I only said on here the other week that this year is going to be one of my best. But I wasn't expecting it until harvest time. So this was an early bonus! I notice that France/Germany have harvested & I will be watching in envy as the finds flood in.

Re: <<<HIT THE JACKPOT>>>

Jackpot indeed! What a beautiful coin! It's a great thing to be able to hold something that was made by human hands so long ago and wonder what their lives must have been like.

A few years ago, I "hopped the pond" to see Hadrian's Wall and a few of the forts..my regret is that I didn't have more than a few hours in Colchester. One of these days, I'll make it back there and make that area the priority. Find Roman occupied Britain really fascinating. Boudica is my heroine :D

Keep digging and posting-you are on to something good there!

Serious question to:

Jeff & PBK

'What do I need to find to get on the banner?'
