1833 Giant Copper! And it's. . . . Russian?

Found this huge coin today at an 1850's homesite. Found out it is an 1833 EM Russian 10 Kopek! Sure was surprised that my oldest coin find thus far is a Russian coin. Love it! IMG_0989.JPG IMG_0990.JPG

And the date of 1833 is also for sure since this type of coin was only minted during the years 1831-1839; only one year in that series ending in '3'.

Congratulations on your find. It's kind of surprising that more old foreign coins are not found. With western expansion and European immigration throughout the 1800's. My area has many small towns that were originated by loggers and farmers from Norway and Poland.
