We definitely have a lot of maple trees but not certain as to what types (as an avid outdoorsman I really should learn that).

Congratulations! With the thriftiness practiced by the Old Timers I imagine few were lost, also goes to prove that "They don't make them like they used to" is true since yours appears to be in working condition.
