Stopped at the 1780s courthouse site for a few hours after work. Decided to look around the large front yard of the 1980s house that is about 500 feet from the original foundation.

Was stoked when I pulled out the 1895S barber half...it was a solid screaming 92-93 signal on the deus about 6 inches down. This was a first for me, as I've only found barber dimes before (skipped the quarter!)

A little while later I pulled this beautiful 1773 half reale from about 2 or 3 inches deep. This is the 2nd half reale from this site, the other being a 1783.

The half was basically black when I recovered it, so I used some baking soda to clean it up a bit. Still has some dark stains on it but I don't mind!

Nice to pull a few silvers with readable dates as all the other 10 or so coins at this place have been coppers that are super toasty and difficult to even tell what kind of coin it is.

Thanks for looking!

edit: sorry the pictures are sideways, they look fine on my computer but for some reason when I upload them they rotate :dontknow:

Two great looking silvers you pulled out. Well done! Either one would make my season smile.
Have you ever tried the spit&foil trick of taking off the black crud?

That real is exquisite! Awesome to find the Barber half too...I'd say you had a great day!

Like pepperj says, the foil and spit method works well. I also like light electrolysis for coins like that.

Wow, the real is very nice but I prefer the look of the Barber, even if it's 112 years younger ;) Congrats grasshopper, amazing day!

It's my understanding that the photo's rotate to the original orientation of the camera/phone. So if you want them to come out right don't turn your camera sideways.

Beauty Spanish silver. How did you use the baking soda to clean the barber? You didn't scrub it, did you?
