After my quick 1 hour scout on this field last time, I already knew where I wanted to grid. Mostly in the hope of 1 hammered, & when I got the Medieval Buckle Plate I thought I was on track. Until I was blown off the tracks with a freak/random Roman Silver. But not any silver, a Republic type that's on my wish list. Not in my top 5 but in the top 10.
Only spent 2 hours weed wacking & I'm still solo hunting with Cru'dad reading in the car.
This coin is my earliest Roman Coin, so I'm well pleased, more so as it's not the normal Helmeted type.

58 BC Republic Denarius of M Aemilius Scaurua and P Plautius Hypsaeus.

Obverse depicts:
King Aretas III of Nabataea kneeling in supplication by camel presenting Olive branch to Scaurus. The first time a moneyer put an event from his career onto coinage.

Reverse:
Jupiter in quadriga brandishing thunderbolt with Scorpion below horses

Bear in mind this is coin is dated over 100 years before they evaded us.

An amazing find BANNER VOTE!
in 57-56BC, the great roman geographer Strabo, and historian Diodorus Siculus, tell us the brilliant Publius Crassus, leader of Caesar's 7th legion in Gaul, undertook an exploratory expedition to Britain in search of the famous tin mines. Caesar's 'invasion' of 55-54BC, which was a failure, is written in Caesar's 'Gallic Wars ' as the first incursion onto British soil. No mention of poor Publius Crassus!! Puts an interesting slant on how this Denarius may have arrived ? Or did it appear here due to early trading? More questions than answers.!
There seems more than 20 years wear on the coin, but not much more than 100. So many possibilities, but I favour early trading with the Celts.

Congratulations on your 58 BC Republic Denarius of M Aemilius Scaurua and P Plautius Hypsaeus coin finds Cru! :occasion14:

I realize this button might be a fairly 'modern find' as far as the rest of your finds are concerned... but I like it!

Outstanding find. Congrats on your bucket list coin. I find coins from the early 1800's and feel like I'm on top of the world. I can only imagine what it felt like to dig that coin.

Modern, as in lost last week.
It was an eyes only Cru'Dad find by the side of the car, but still counts.

UPDATE;

https://finds.org.uk/database/artefacts/record/id/601465

After doing some research on the PAS, there are about 10 others of these recorded.
What interested me more than that was the above link that had on of my coin types in a mixed hoard of Celtic Gold Staters from 50-20BC. It also had about the same amount of wear. This adds a little more wait to my theory that it was traded over here sometime in the BC's.
