Hello Friends,

John hunted a bit over the holiday weekend and dug up some crusty coppers. One is a large cent, we believe from 1797. The other is... ?? We can see a guy's face on it, and a seated lady on the back.

There's also the remains of a spoon, pewter we believe, with a DATE carved or stamped on it of 1775. Now why would a spoon be dated?

Other items are a bronze(?) finial/arrow looking thingy and maybe an incomplete fob stamp?

Happy hunting and thanks for looking! ~Lisa & John

Hey IP -- how have you been? Good to "see" you again. The coins I posted -- the first one with the hair is a large cent. The second one with the "guy" doesn't seem to have any hair? How on earth did you make that ID? You're amazing! :-)

Thanks, ~L&J

This pic. Even though it's sideways it's easy to tell it's a Woods Hibernia reverse.

Yes -- but just not sure why they would carve that on a spoon, of all things! ~L&J

Took me 16 years to find one... and it's worse than yours! :)

Jeepers.... maybe I should do electrolysis and see if I can clean it up any better!

I wouldn't. Olive or mineral oil soak maybe.

Thanks, Dave. Probably not much you can do for a coin in that state anyway. -Lisa & John

Congrats, Juan! Not sure of a date on our crusty copper though. The 1723 one that Iron Patch posted is just an example from a website. If we ever found one in that nice of shape, I think we'd faint. Thanks for looking.-L&J

Juan--you can see a date on mine? Awesome. I'll have to look at it under the loupe next time I am over John's house. Thanks so much. -L&J

Yes, to the right of the head on the obverse. It's crusty but it's there!
