Got out late Sunday to the un-mowed field; it's been at least 6 weeks since this area was cut. You cannot swing easily but despite the tall grass I can still manage to hear some faint signals. Started at about 6:05 PM and finishes at 7:15 due to darkness.

Not a very auspicious start with a modern lead square, about a half inch square. Next target sounded promising with numbers jumping into the 80s but this turned out to be a memorial. Ground is drier now and I didn't have my Predator Tools shovel with me and was using a digging tool with a thicker blade., so digging a decent plug was quite a workout.

Ended up doing a grid search in a particular area and got my first truly deep target, a convex flat button with missing shank. 6 to 7 passes latter I heard a high pitched tone ringing up in the 70s and found I was on to another deep target. This one, like the button required removal of several more inches of soil before the pinpointer could sense the object. To my surprise, this find turned out to be a coin and I knew it had to be "old" since it was deep. A few rubs and the details of a 2-cent piece came through.

This very brief hunt ended with a square nail and another of those lead pieces.

I can only imagine what remains to be found in this field during the winter months when the grass has died away and the soil is moist.

Thx vpnavy! Good to get out and swing, even if just for a short hunt.

Congrats on a nice 2 center and button. Hopefully the field will be mowed soon so you can get your coil closer to the ground. Can't wait to see them in person.

Thx "Old Tom Cat"! This one's a little toasty but under the right soil conditions these can come up looking great.
Here's to your next good find!

Thx Silver Coin Fiend! Found my first a couple years ago and at the time I was unaware that there was such a coin. That first turned out to be the best of them all.

Thx Scruggs! It's about the right size for a half cent and that's what I thought it was at first.
