Nice find! Your coin is from the Netherlands. City of Utrecht. The unit of currency is called the Duit. Below is a photo of both obverse and reverse of the coin. They list for about 10 Euro in fair, non-dug condition (probably worth about 5-8 bucks as is). This example listed for around 30 Euro.

:o WTG Hank, that coin is a keep for sure. I,too, would like to know the history of a lot of my finds. We cam dream, who's to say we're wrong.

Congrats Hank that is a cool find! You gotta wonder how that stuff winds up around here. As you know we do have a lot of British coinage in the dirt around New England. I think we need to hunt the lowlands near the ocean to find all that Spanish silver that was lost in the early 17th century ;D
