Had 2 hours this morning, decided to hit the site where I have found LC's, 3 cent nickels and a slick copper. Faint wheat penny signal. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1511542684.822713.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1511542708.806633.jpg
Thought, "cool a token", size of a LC but a little thinner, but could tell it has some design under the crud

Rubbed some dirt off on my glove and saw US, googled Old Large Cents, found no matches. Sent pic to Steve of PA, he said it looks like a Nova Constellatio, no way! A little more rubbing and 1783, ok stopped rubbing.

Can anyone confirm if this is a Nova and type? I think I need to tooth pick some more crud off, seems like it has a lot of detail under the dirt.

Dried, then flaked with wooden skewer pics:

(Thanks for looking!)

Good luck out there!

Thx Ahab8! I appreciate all the votes from everyone. As Ahab8 stated, there have been some simply amazing finds from our Tnet members lately. Everyone is kicking some butt out there, keep the bucket lister finds flowing!

Very high. This part of the season when the foliage dies down in the North is always accompanied with killer finds.

Thx Masterjedi. This morning I hit the site again and got 3 more LC's including a NJ Copper. I added a pic of all the 1800's coins found at this site in the last month and the Nova is by far in the nicest condition. The other coppers are in varying degrees of toastiness. If I had to pick one to make it 200 years in the dirt and pop out in good condition it would be the Nova, so I am very lucky...

One site can change everything. I’m glad you’re picking up lots of goodies. Keep grilling it for a few years. The better stuff sounds like it’s yet to come if your site pans out anything like a handful of my best sites.

Just saw the New Jersey in your other post, it is a Maris 77-dd, one of the running fox varieties. While not terribly rare, they are sought after as a type coin. Close to the same rarity as your Nova Constellatio, but seems to me the Nova's are seen more often than the running fox NJ's.

Got a picture of the New Jersey? Is it good enough to ID the variety?

Check out my post about 30 minutes ago "1800's pocket spill..." This contains the NJ copper from this morning. Shield side is pretty good, back is pure toast

Dare I ask how much this coin can be worth?

Unlike a silver or gold coin that would start with melt value then go up, a copper/brass coin is all about condition, rarity and potentially grading. If you look at eBay or Google for price it has a huge spread, but definitely will need to keep my day job...

Hey Thad. I must have been busy dredging iron from some corn field and missed this incredible recovery. Probably the ONE coin every coin shooting treasure hunter really wants notched off the TOP of their Bucket List. Huge congrats on scoring true American History with this find of a lifetime. Absolutely gorgeous as is. You can be proud of your research and perseverance going toward the capture of such an authentic American-British? treasure. Well done mate.:icon_salut:

I was very happy to see one of these come out of the ground--but have never dug one myself in 26 years of detecting. Well done! Most of these coins are toast, but yours is great. Leave it as is!

Congrats!
