The semi frozen ground helped a little at the beginning as it was somewhat less sticky so we gridded for the full 5 hours to complete the site. This site is spread over 10 acres+ & we gridded all of it in only 3 days, so it shows how little is left, as it use to take 8-10 days.
We did continue to clear lots of iron pieces including nails to get rid of them. We will not need to return to this site until they do a deep plough. (Could be years away)

Broken Medieval 14th C Buckle
9 Roman Coins (our target was 10):sadsmiley:
Best find - 5th C AD Saxon Cruciform Brooch (The earliest type of Saxon Brooch to turn up with the Saxon Migrants.):icon_thumright:

I am sooooooooooooo jealous of the history your area has. i have found early 1800's, and my town goes back to the late 1600's. But THIS!!!!!!!!!

Nice going on the totals still a great day in many hunter's book.

Gee just thinking how many hours I've spent in my 13 acre field over the years, and still haven't done it all.

I can't remember having a full 5th C type, but I've had a few complete 6th C types.

We are pretty slick when it come to gridding.
However, it should only take 1 person about 4 hours to do 1 acre. (Although there are lots of variables) So it should only take you about 10 days to cover it all. So I don't understand how its taken you years?

Nice finds! Do you set yearly goals for yourself? If so, what are some of those goals? Just curious what you most shoot for in the U.K.!

It truly must be exciting to find Roman coins and 2000 year old relics on a regular basis. You must pinch yourself every day just to see if you are dreaming. :>)

Good job on the brooch. Always nice to save history coming off a period poor with finds.:icon_thumleft:
The buckle looks gilded? How often does it happen to find gilded medieval buckles? I'm asking because i never dug one nor have i've seen one. On the other hand ours are mostly of plain design so gilt would not last over the centuries as it would do on one with cavities.

I would say its less than 1 in 30 medieval buckles are gold gilt. I believe these to be fairly high status & probably a sword belt buckle.
