Got to like spring

I was planning for a Sunday hunt, then it was Saturday because of the incoming weather. Well I looked this morning and I was out the door as it's going to be a wet one for 6 days.
So I thought of a cellar hole I have permission to, and I hit with pretty good results last year.
The hay/grass was the issue so thinking that the winter packed down the grass I returned to see if I could sniff out a few keepers.
I was treated by a big copper which turned out to be pretty sweet If I my say so myself.
Then came the first silver from this site and it was in the iron as well.
A buckle gave me another smile.
Then came yet another copper being a large cent.
Getting late so I'm just throwing this post together or it never happen.

I just love these One Penny Tokens

Really keeps the trash off the site.


And who can forget the reason good things come up once in a while, get the iron out.

I can't recall digging any lead from this site, strange really as most cellar holes has a few pieces.

I'll probably hit it one more time after I get the new 9" HF coil. I know the actual cellar hole has now been detected every which way possible so it will be a good test.

That had to be a fun hunt. Now,it almost 50 years searching in Ohio I found three of those Canadian bank tokens. Two are half cents 1842 and 1844 Bank of Montreal the other is a one penny 1857 Bank of upper Canada. My reference books do not go back that far, what value do you place on them?

For some reason the One Penny Tokens always seem to be really nice, the half can be burnt right crisp from the soils.

Not too strange as we had a real shortage of coinage from the early 1800-1850's we relied on bank tokens and US coinage mostly. That and being only 10+ as the crow flies from the border the US coinage is well mixed into the early sites. Might not be too much from 1812 war time era for some odd reason.

That and being only 10+ as the crow flies from the border the US coinage is well mixed into the early sites. Might not be too much from 1812 war time era for some odd reason.

Not only that but the border was incredibly porous until the early 1900's (in particular coming into Canada). Fortunes were made with Capone and whiskey/beer running...

It was a good spring test for the cellar hole, now I'll wait until I get the HF coil and for the weather to stop raining. With 70+mm of rain and 10+ mm of snow over the next 3 days there's no getting back over the shallow stream as it will be raging through the area.
No worries for moisture after this weekend, the frost will be driven out of the ground and it'll take many weeks of sunny weather to dry things up still.

Congrats on getting the Deus, more iron will be dug, but rewards are high as well.
