🥇 BANNER John Wright 1720 Pocket Watch!!!!!

What a great day out on a couple of my colonial permissions. So I found 2 pocket watches. One is I believe coin silver that's engraved with SWL with what looks to be a hallmark above the S. I found a 1781 2 Real about a hundred feet from there engraved with the same lettering. I'm hoping its early 1800's or earlier. Any help identifying it would be very appreciated.

I also found another pocket watch at a totally different site. So that's 2 in one day. Plus an Engraved spoon or fork handle. I found the same initials before but the other one had the last name on it. I was able to find out who the owner was. She lived in that area from 1815-1860. I actually found where her house is. I'm planning on giving both to the homeowner. I found it about 5 miles away from there. Also I found a rev war musket ball and a copper piece with writing on it.

Thank you everyone. I am so happy for my first banner. I have been looking forward to getting it since i joined many years ago. I can't wait to get back to the hole it came out of so i can look for some of the missing pieces. Also i'm in talks about having it professionally restored. So there's more to come. A big thank you again to everyone for their help and support!!!!

Congrats on the Banner and I hope you can get the restoration done at a decent price! I have an 1840-1850 Key Wind, Key Set Silver Pocket Watch with JFW Swiss Movement that has the rare type of Cylinder Escapement and it was assembled in a Custom made Sterling Silver Case by Bill Franklin (Watch Maker) in England along with a Silver Dial with Gold second, minute and hour increments. I had the pocket watch restored by an Expert Watch/Clock Maker/Repairman (John Miller in Seymour, TN) who worked in the industry until retirement and now does the work out of his own shop. Luckily, since the economy is depressed, especially in this area, he quoted me a price ($325) for the restoration but he had to eat some of the costs. He not only cleaned the entire movement parts as they were disassembled but also made a Custom Main Spring, Custom Balance Staff and custom made an attachment to the Bevel to accommodate the new old stock 1850's English Bullseye Crystal. The Crystal alone cost $150 so I know he ate some of the costs of the repairs.

I wonder if he would work on mine? i'm actually heading to Tennessee next Friday on vacation to see my mom...Can you give me his email and phone #. I know mine is a complete mess so i'm guessing it would be a lot of work.

I'm glad to see that you made banner on this find. The photos alone that you provided in reply #40 is worthy of banner. The pictures are exceptional. It not just a watch - it's a piece of art. I don't have the slightest idea of the work & cost to have that watch restored, but I would give it a lot of consideration. Congrats on a killer find!
