First one in nearly a year. Tough coin to dig. Found some buttons, toasted colonial copper and out in the middle of the field away from the site came the nickel. Its a stars with rays variety so its either 1867 or most likely 1866. Ive found around 20 shield nickels over the years but most of them came from my 19th century fairgrounds site

Just 1 Shield would make me happy .
Great Hunting.

I'm with Bonepicker the 'Cut Shield ' is IMO At least as good as the Gold Dollar , as "Better" is a matter of opinion.
Ill keep my opinion to myself . LOL

I love Shield Nickels. My favorite nickel and I’m a nickel guy. Only been blessed with one with beautiful rays. Congratulations

Wait a minute I thought those were wheaties at the bottom and just looked again and realized those are all shield nickels. You make me sick. Spoiled East Coast.

You don't see a lot of Shield nickels and that's a nice collection

For some reason, the shield nickel has long been a favorite of mine to find.

Good job!
