I was able to get out 4 times this past week all of them on campus. Monday 125 coins, face $7.89, Tuesday 120 coins, face $7.25, Wednesday 139 coins, face $8.71 so the clad was plentiful, but I didn’t find anything interesting until today. I was out for 4 hours and found 103 coins with a face value of $5.52 so the coin count and value were both down, but it was still a good day. In addition I found a broken key fob from Planet Hollywood in New York, a broken advertising key from a bank that no longer exists, a cheapy earring, a 1942 wheatie, and two silver rings.

When I dug the first ring I was excited about the silver, but I noticed that there were some shiny silver bits in the dirt around the ring, it had been partly mashed and I thought it was plated and some of the plating had come off. I started to be a little disappointed, but then I noticed some black smudges on the ring so I rubbed it on my pants leg and it shined up nicely with no signs of and spot that plating had come off of so I was sure it was really silver. The silver bits were probably some treated layer to prevent tarnishing. Later I got a weak high tone that I was sure was either a deep penny or a piece of can slaw, but I had to dig it because I knew sometimes those signals are good things and this time it was. When I pinpointed the plug out popped a tiny little silver ring with 3 small round turquoise stones.

When I got them home I washed them up. The mashed cut work ring is 925 and the smaller one is marked STERLING. I got out my ring stick and my leather mallet and straightened the cutwork ring. A little tumble in treated walnut shells and it should look like new.

All in all a good week with a happy ending. Thanks for looking and may your coil lead you to good things.

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!

Nice work! 🙌 I found a ring with 3 turquoise stones a few years back that could be that ones clone. 😁
