Ok so on 1/1/2019 I went out on a hunt that ended out kinda too muddy for my liking so I ventured into the woods to maybe catch a good signal...this is why I uncovered barely beneath the surface.. E3EFD9A8-015B-4B5B-85FF-2EBF010FA72E.jpeg 9D2859D8-A1E2-4260-AACE-F59E89E99EE1.jpeg 633B7702-0C28-4096-9467-2C816BF52284.jpeg

*super dense/heavy for its size!
*rips Neodymium magnet from my hand
*super shiny where I shaved off an area
*has fusion crust
*has small indentations covering entire surface

NO DOUBTING THIS BEAUTIFUL THING I JUST NEED SOME IMPROSSIBLE TO OBTAIN NITRIC ACID TO REVEAL ITS WIDMANSTATTENPATTERN!!!!!
My first ever Meteorite find SINCE SEARCHING BEGAN IN 2011!!!!

This one deserves banner in my book...the study and research, the rarity of the find, and the recovery.

Nicely done, DD!

That’s pretty cool. Wish I was closer to PA. I’m assuming you used your detector to find it, is that right?

When I started to research recent meteorite falls witnessed in the location I found this, (location in between the cities of Scranton and Wilkes-Barre, Pa I came across the posting about the 1000’s of people reporting the huge fireball in that vicinity so I did more digging and found the satellite images of that meteorite fall and it showed the HEAT SIGNATURES RIGHT OVER THE AREA I FOUND THIS THING!!! I am going back to recover anymore I can possibly find. I’m starting at the spot I found it and making a tight outward spiral to locate possibly more of this I can’t see it being a loner!

Awesome find! It would be best to grid the areas in the woods in grid blocks as trying to make a spiral search pattern will likely cause you to miss a lot of ground with the metal detectors coil.

DON’T do anything more to it!!! Your find needs to be submitted for cataloging!! There have been only 8 verified meteorites recovered in Pennsylvania!!! You may be holding the sixth iron known to the state!!! Please- keep it as it is and submit it. I can help you find the right people if you are interested!!!

Reading back over this- I don’t think you grasp the importance of this find- detecting since 2011 and never found one- thats because NO ONE finds them! Since the 1880s there are just 8 found here! For having such a decent size, PA ranks at the bottom 8 of the nation for number of meteorites recovered in state. Many a scientist from a reputable University will gladly test, and date your meteorite and put it in the science books!!

Lol that’s a very good observation! I hate winter😂😂😂
The best cure for cracks that are mind blowingly painful...some good old, straight from an all American took box...super glue!

My great uncle was a machinist at the coal mines and used to melt rubber bands into the cracks. He was a WW1 vet and a hardcore. Gary
