I met Ron at our local favorite park today after work today. I dug a 1908 V nickel (dude is UGLY!) ~ 1914 Wheat Cent ~ and a 1928-S Mercury dime. I totally scratched the dime across her head ~ but the rim damage at the 9 o'clock position was old damage. At first I thought it was a clipped planchet error coin ~ but it's not. I'm all about error coins! I've never found one while metal detecting though. Have anyone else here ever found a major mint-made error coin while detecting?

;^)

yeah, I dug a bunch of mint errors... sba's and sac's...

is was a massive error to mint either of those designs.

Those coins are a perfect match for your username, oddcoins... ;D :D :D J/K

I scuffed a merc ('42) I dug yesterday too....It was laying completely on edge at 6" in the hole, so don't feel too bad. It's just a common. No "D" on the '14 wheatie? I've dug so many '14 plains this year, and a couple of '14 S, but no '14 D's.

I found a 1962 dime with a fairly obvious doubling in the lettering in UNITED STATES. Coin shop confirmed it. Not worth anything really, but kinda neat.

Nope ~ no "D" mint mark ~ no mint mark at all! Whick is kinda weird for around here ~ we usually find S & D mints, not many P mints.

I dug a 1914-S Wheat earlier this year ~ and a 1909-S Wheat too.
