Hi All,
I don’t post though I visit the site often. Figured I’d share this one since it’s kind of neat. Was in a wooded park near Philadelphia, my most recent spot that given 2 large cents (including 1798) 2 barber quarters, 2 barber dimes, 6 Indian heads, 3 mercs, 1 silver rosie, 4 silver Washington, 1 shield nickel and 3 buffalos along with some buttons and other stuff over 4 different hunts.

Early in on my third hunt I tried a different area and was getting lots of cans when I got a large, shallow signal. Another piece of junk I figured. I pulled out my pin pointer and could locate without digging. After narrowing with the pin pointer in I popped this out at about 2-3 inches. It was a locket or compact in pretty good shape and I stuck into my pocket. That’s neat I thought. I’m glad I’m digging these signals. Continued my hunt and found the 1798 large cent and a 1906 Indian. Didn’t think twice about the locket/compact until I emptied my pouch. It looked in good shape so I started running warm water over it so I could open expecting dried makeup or just dirt inside. To my surprise it was made to hold coins. 1909 25 cent and 1919 and 1920 wheats. I had seen one of these found before on a video (theirs had gold and seated I believe). It never crossed my mind I had found one so the moment I opened it was really cool surprise. Sometimes it pays to be a little dimwitted. In addition to the coins there’s a ticket for Willow Grove Park valid May 12 to Sept 16, 1923 which was an amusement part in the area that no longer exists. My guess is this was lost in ’23. Congrats on the coin purse, and contents. It's amazing how a ticket stub can survive for 97 yrs through a the different seasons buried. It's a really a cool find and not something dug too often.

I dug a big clump of rusty metal on a slope in a park ravine yrs ago. I hit it with the Leache to see what it was, and it opened up, and spilled out 4 large pennies from the teens and 3 or 4 streetcar trolly tickets. I have it all together still in a box waiting for the future display shadow box.

That is AWESOME! :occasion14:

The few times I’ve found a compact or small case I always hope it has a couple coins or something cool in it. None have but I did find one with holders like that in it. It only had 2 slots and I assumed they were for holding powder puffs.
