Since we've been in a drought all summer Nana, Terri and I
decided to hit the lake.
When they backed this lake up in the 50's they covered up
roads, farms, houses, everything. I looked at the old maps
and found the road came up this slough and there was a
farm there. We found the foundation and what might have
been the well but didn't have the camera out there.

Terri found a gun and I told her I would clean it for her. Got
home washed and scrubbed it then threw it in the electrolysis.
Was emailing Nana and mentioned I hoped it didn't have a live
round still in it. Immediately the phone rang...it's Nana..."you
might better get that gun out of the cooker". So I turned it off
and waited for hubby to get home from hunting. He says he
doesn't think it's a real gun so...back in the cooker. I haven't
heard a loud bang yet....

Sorry that the pic is misleading. That is a pic of one small slough.
This is Lewis Smith Lake. A 300-foot high dam, completed in 1961
by Alabama Power Company, impounds the Sipsey Fork of the Black
Warrior River to form the lake. Smith Lake has a surface area of
21,200 acres, 500 miles of shoreline, a watershed area of 944 square
miles, a retention time of 435 days, and a maximum depth of 264 feet.

The low water doesn't stop the great fishing.

Nice hunt, looks and sounds like you might be able to find some good hot spots for old coins and stuff around the area. WTG!!

Is it done yet? ;D Can't wait to see the clean-up pics of the gun!

We had fun yesterday.....even if we did dig a zillion pull tabs and beer cans. :P :D I think I have some pics of the lake from last year..I'll see if I can find them. ALL the lakes around here are VERY low and most of the folks that have ponds...well...they're empty or mighty close to it. :-\

Thanks for posting those great site pics!! See ya next week....

Nana :)
