War of Secession ornamental clothing fastener with our national bird of Jove

O.K. so it's a Civil War eagle button.
Seems like I've been hitting the same acre for the past year and a half and it's because these keep popping up in places I swear I've been over 20 times.
Then I found this Skoal can size iron chunk, it's about an inch thick. Any ideas?

Great button, but I would have refered to it as a "War of Northern Agression" clothes fastne r. That does look like a weight for a set of scales. I bet you thought it was gonna be a plate. I know I would have. I hope to find me a plate someday...d2
