Hey Oddcoins!... submitted for your approval, I got me a good one.
My street is being tore up, and pickings have been slim, except for this....Bay City, Michigan, 1949....doggy was a LONG way from home, found in Ft. Myers, FL...might this be an "oldest known"?.... guessing not, but it's a keeper!.

I've picked up at least two dozen plus dog tags over the years, the oldest is a 1947, & 1948, both from Klamath Co. Oregon. The one you found from 1920 is really nice. Sorry no pictures, I'm somewhat tech. challenged, but hope to put something together in the furture.

GREAT FIND! The oldest known tag from Bay City MI is dated 1896.

So cool that it was found in Florida! I wish it could talk and tell us its story! BA HA HA HA!!

Also, it is interesting how it reads "CITY OF BAY CITY" . . . . kinda sounds redundant . . . . . "BAY CITY" would have been sufficient.

Thanks for sharing!

Walking a field in the SC Lowcountry looking at glass trying to estimate the date of the site, figured it to be 1920s -1940s. Happened to look down and sticking out of the dirt was an octagon shaped heavily patina'd brass tag. My heart skipped a beat as Charleston is less than an hour away I thought it might be a slave tag. Rolled it over and saw this.

Found this dog tag in the front yard of my mother-in-laws house. The cool part is this home has been in my wife's family for over 100 years so the dog was almost certainly one of the family pets.

I wonder what the dog's name was?

Found this one recently. By far my oldest dog tag. 1901 from Winston, North Carolina. (Before Winston and Salem merged in 1913.) I didn't even realize what it was when I found it. I tossed in in with my coins and when I tumbled them I saw the tag. :laughing7:

Didn't think I would ever find a dog tag older than the 1923 one I found two years ago. Well, I dug this 1904 Mount Pleasant, Michigan tag today :)
Oldest known?

Edited to add, I've been informed that the oldest known for Mt Pleasant is 1903! :BangHead: LOL
