1914 Bethel, Connecticut

Here's my favorite 1914 from Bethel, Connecticut. I found it between the rocks, on a high ledge in an old wooded park in town.

(Responding to my own post) Wow! I just noticed how elongated the hole is, and how the sides of the cross are hammered and flaired out! The dog must have had that on his collar for years!

WOW ~ that is a great find!

FYI ~ the oldest known dog tag from Stillwater MN is dated 1887.

Dr. William Bone is the author of the book US DOG LICENSE TAGS. He records all the oldest known dog tags from every issuing agency across the US!

No kidding!! May I ask for the source of that information? I'd like to be able to retell that!

Been at least a year since last one I found. This one is twenty years older. Heading in the right direction. Probably be back again next year.
Enjoy.

20161125_095705.jpg My "dog" related stuff, :laughing7: I have seen a "Walkerville" MT. tag just like the one I have, except with a year of 1900, it was listed as a dog tag, so I guess mine might be as well....

Seems odd for something like that to be found out of state, as already noted. But at least you'd expect to find it to the west of its origin during that period of history, not east! I guess people did sometimes find they didn't like the life out here, and headed back to "civilization".

One year older than my Stillwater tag... sweet! I want to dig one now!

Ok, I have been asked to add mine here. I just found it today (1/20/2017) in Charlestown, Indiana. It was found at the site of Barnett Academy. There is no city on this one, just the state.

I sent these to your email as well but here are a couple I have found. I've found PLENTY more modern ones on the beach, but I usually just toss them out. If I come across more, old or modern, I'll post them here or send them to you via email again for your data base.
1924 and 1927 Bucks County Pa Licenses and one from Imperial Beach Ca from the early or mid-80's. IB is pretty much the LAST US beach on the west coast before you hit the Mexican border.
