"Nazi 'gold train': Treasure could be claimed by Russia as compensation for Second World War"

Like the Russians were saints. It goes to show that even having their own skeletons doesn't keep them from wanting more.

I wonder if the contents will ever get out in public.

The treasure is stuff the Nazis ym"sh stole from my brethren. Stolen property can not be considered treasure. It needs to be returned to the rightful owners.
If they are no longer living, figure something else out. No one would consider keeping a treasure they found in a park if they realized it was stolen goods. Just pointing this fact out.

How do you know? Did you load the train personally? :D

The government of Russia has not said one single thing about this trasure.

Any statement about "Russia wants some of the treasure" is a load of BS, as that notion only originated from an interview with some unknown lawyer who lives in Russia who was just speaking his opinion.

But how do you hide a 100 meter long train? Not only would they need to remove and hide all the rails and ties, but remove the bed that it was built on. Not a very easy task, when trying trying to escape from the enemy.

We also have trains filled with treasure in Thailand, lots of wishful thinking!

There is also some speculation that it may contain the fabled Amber Room looted from Russia....
TT

It is still speculation that it exists at all. This is all based on a couple guys stating they found something big with ground penetrating radar. It's not like they walked into a mine and saw the rail cars.

Charlie,

It could very well be an internal rail system in an old shut down mine.....they used trolley like cars to haul the ore from the mine for processing.

Tadeusz Slowikowski has photos of the exact spot, where the tracks used to slide over at, and more details than anyone. Does anyone know why he never moved to make a claim for it?

He said he tried for almost 40 years to convince authorities but nobody took him seriously,,,and when he started to dig once he was refused permisiion..and he said he is happy the two guys whom he also shared his info finally pushed it through. In their case they went a step further by engaging radar tech to make their point...

Could be lots of things. An old spur-line used to store unused rail pieces. And hiding tunnels and bunkers was what it was all about in WWII in Europe.

In 1944/45 it wasn't a good thing to be a railway car. We had swarms of P-47s and P-51s that would light-up every moving or unmoving train they came across on the way back from bomber escort. The Germans would have hidden any train they could; treasure carrying or not.

Yes - it would be difficult to cover-up a train tunnel entrance. But when you have a lot of help from the Allies moving soil and debris and the whole countryside looks like this it's not impossible.

Still, even if it's just a few cars of "factory new" Tiger III tanks or the like it will be a historical find.

I saw yesterday that the two anonymous treasure hunter finally disclosed themesleves as they felt they have been sort of ignored....
As people were following the exciting treasure saga I was in particular focused on how the agreement with the two informers will play out...some time back in this forum I mentioned the idea of "soft" treasure hunting which basically deals in information trading rather than dealing with the actual treasure hardware...I am interested on how this story developes and whether their 10 pct deal for the info they gave will stand or not.

I don't trust the US government, imagine how trustworthy the Polish government is. These 2 guys could end up disappearing....... for good! A great story for an Indiana Jones movie. I am sure that Steven Spielberg is watching this story very closely.

This is fun stuff. If there is gold it is incredibly sad because everyone knows where it came from.
If there is no gold and still a legit Nazi armored train that has been hidden for 60 years, just as incredible! Untouched for all this time, there will be goodies in it, maybe just not the get you rick kind!
