Minelab Excal Anderson Knobs (new) w/Stainless Allen Head Set Screws
I have several sets yellow Anderson Knobs for the Minelab Excalibur available. This set includes upgraded stainless allen head set screws and allen wrench. Stainless set screws are "cup" tipped and provide excellent grip on OEM Excal stainless knob shaft. Knobs have brass inserts. Each set (5 knobs, 5 stainless set screws, 1 allen wrench) is $13 plus $2.50 for shipping/Paypal.
For those who already own Anderson Knobs and would like to upgrade to stainless set screws, I can sell the stainless allen head set screws and allen wrench set for $3 plus $1.50 shipping.
NOTE: I have drafted change procedures for removing and replacing the stock knobs and will provide to anyone desiring a copy.

As a master machinist, you might want to research your stainless set screws with the brass inserts. I am and have been in the process of manufacturing stainless knobs for the Excaliber and Minelab. Have many prototypes out in the field now. One thing I noticed with your stainless set screws and brass inserts is a chemical reaction called fusion. This happens when 2 unlike metals come in contact with each other and are subject to the elements. Being stainless is the hardest of the 2 you will indeed find that the stainless set screw will lock up as it becomes fused to the brass insert. Just a FYI so you don't have problems down the road. Re: Minelab Excal Anderson Knobs (new) w/Stainless Allen Head Set Screws
KEVTEC,
Thank you for your post. The reaction you are describing is called "electrolysis". I'm a retired naval aviation maintenance officer and understand the implications of this quite well. I have posted on the forums regarding electrolysis. The brass becomes the sacrificial anode and will oxidize if left exposed to salt water (dissimilar metal corrosion). I have a set mounted on a spare Excal case which I routinely expose to salt water and do not clean to examine the effects on this set up. I don't rinse this test setup after exposure to salt water and I have had minimal reaction over six months (slight surface oxidation on the brass), no effect on internal switch shaft. Boats (ships) typically mount zinc as a sacrificial anode which corrodes and can be easily replaced. Remember, these machines are not being left in salt water for extended duration, and if properly cared for will not have any problems.
I have this knob combination installed on all of my Excals (10+) and have no problems. A simple solution is to keep the housing rinsed down with warm fresh water after each use, which is what I do. The warm water rinse breaks down the salt and rinses it away. Those who care for their detector (i.e. keep it washed down after each use) will not have problems with the knobs.

Re: Minelab Excal Anderson Knobs (new) w/Stainless Allen Head Set Screws
I picked up 2 sets from Dave, they are great knobs. I put them on both of my Excals this weekend, and removed the after market knobs I picked up and put on my excals over 2 years ago, they were not matching knobs then as I picked them up as spare knobs from a store that sells excess supplies.
The old knobs I had on also had brass inserts with SS screws. I had no problem removing them even after the two years they have been on, being they are allen ss screws makes it easier to remove as opposed to standard flat head set screw........
Dave knows his excals, and has done a couple mods on his excals that I saw and they are very professional looking...
