    Re: Shoe Buckle?

.. Very nice...If we can figure out what this reads...That will be the Tell Tale of it....OK, Eureka ..I believe.October 31st not 3rd. And if I'm not mistaken, Eureka made Horse bridals. But, I don't think this is. Sash buckle maybe? This, in my opinion is a nice buckle. I hope to learn more of this...Mike

Is it just me or does it look like there's a faint 1 to the right of the 3?
Also what is the other writing? EUBEKA?

    Re: Shoe Buckle?

    As aaaaaaa asked, any chance there's a 1 after that 3 = Oct. 31, 1865?

If so, here's a patent that shows a fairly similar—although not identical— buckle.

    http://www.google.com/patents?id=dz4...age&q=&f=false

Of course, actual products often differ in design and appearance from the original patent drawings. The patent, usually for some particular aspect of design or function, still applies.

    Re: Shoe Buckle?

    I see Oct 31 also.

It is not a shoe buckle. Nobody wore shoe buckles after the 1830's. I think it is asuspender buckle.

I saw a posting for the same buckle (Oct. 31 1865) in a different forum but didn't have rights to view it.

    Sweet buckle.
