Age/date of a Boy Scout Neckerchief slide?

    Hello!

I dug this Boy Scout Neckerchief Slide today downtown Eugene Oregon.

Anyone know how to date these things? I assume this one has a little bit of age to it because of the depth that I dug it at. But it cleaned up very well!

    THANKS!
    Neil

I had one much like it if not the same back in the 1950s when I was a boy scout. Mine was brass as I recall. Monty

I do not know how long that style has been used, but here is the Boy Scout link to where you can buy a new one like it:

Can you post a pic of the reverse side? That would be of help in narrowing it's age.

    Cool find Neil!

I think the newer ones had tabs on the back you could bend, and the older ones had a strap riveted on.

    Neil ~

    Nice find!

I was a Boy Scout myself back in the mid 1960s, but joined mainly for the campouts and hiking trips. I never could remember all those knots, although I do use a "sheep-shank" knot once in a while.

I thought it would be interesting to note ...

The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) was founded on February 8, 1910

Making it exactly 100 years old on the day after the upcoming Super Bowl.
Plus making any item from the year 1910 an "official" antique!

Have you checked closely with a magnifying glass for a makers mark or any other identifying indications? This may be the only way to positivly ID it. It appears that the same slide has been used for years and years. Maybe the bendable clasp or whatever is on the back of it may also be clue to it's age. Any chance of a photo of the back?

    Thanks.

A friend of mine has put together a wall display with my old scouting uniform. Unfortunately, three things are missing from the display. My red barret, my red neckerchief with white piping, and my slide. This looks just like the slide I use to have. It would be nice to find suitable replacements for this items to complete the display. Would you be willing to part with this...at a reasonable cost?...
