    Button date?

This is a button my buddy found. I'm pretty sure it's a 3 piece New York Excelsior button. The backmark is John F. Boylan, N.Y. * S.N.Y.*

Can anybody date this button for me please? Thanks in advance.

Thanks IronSpike. I'm gonna hold off on the green check for a bit, I would like to see what somebody with the Alberts or Tice books have to say.

    Albert's states 1850's-80's.

"NY 30. There are a number of different dies of this button. It is known with the backmark of practically every button maker and outfitter of the period, as well as many quality marks. The earliest backmark seems to be:

    A. "Scovill Mg Co/Waterbury" (1850's). RV1

An excellent button for specializing, as nearly 50 different specimens are known."

Cool, thank you. I forgot to mention that this button was found in Oklahoma. I will have to research and see how it may have got there.
