Need help with vintage earring
Went to the old pounded out green today. It always gives up something. Found this old earring at about 5-6 inches. The body of the earring is made from two pieces . The front looks like gold and the back looks like brass? dontknow Was this customary with old jewelry? It's definitely two different metals. I'm really hoping the stones are real. Looks like a blue sapphire and diamonds. It really dazzles in the light. Two of the "white" stones are missing. What do you think, real or costume?? Rich.

'Screw-back earrings' date from 1894 and continue through to the 1950's. Could you post a few pics of the back showing the screw and it's landing? Nice find, Breezie

Cool Breezie
I did mean to search the era for the screw type earring.
I do recall my Mum wearing that style in the 1960's.
I do think this earring here, is quite a classy little piece.
The blue stone looks good to my amateur eye, as do the likely Gold mounts.
Possibly (probably most Likely) Diamonds for the other stones.
Cheers, Mike

Yes, Mike, it is a classy looking 'ear-bob' (as they use to call them in the 1950's.) I'd like to see more pics of it with a different background since the wood looks the same color as the earring. Some pics taken outside would probably show-off the stone, which looks nice to me.

UPDATE: As I suspected, I took it to my gold/jewelry/coin guy and it turns out to be costume jewelry circa: 30's-40's. Stones are glass. One of these days I'm gonna find a real one! Looked good in the hole though. Thanks for the input...Rich.

Rich, thanks for the update. Jewelry is exciting to find, whether it is real or costume. Costume jewelry from the 30s/40s can often fetch $$$ too. Still a nice find, Breezie
