Looking for some back ground information on this

The back says "This watch is registered 1256 by williams, clark and co. lynn, mass. LA FRANCE shoes" I have found an old advertisement online about LA FRANCE shoes and it seems they were a high dollar women's shoe of the time. The advertisement was mid to late 1800's. The item does not appear to be a watch to me but some kind of badge or medallion of sorts. It was found on an old home site that had been demolished on family owned property dating back to the early 1800's. Curious if anyone else can dig up some information to help positively identify it and what it was for. It is about 2 inches tall and 1 1/2 inches wide.

Your bit will be the watch fob..it's missing the watch itself unfortunately. Chances are if the fob broke then the chain and watch itself may be in the same area.

Yes, I believe it was a ladies watch that was worn around the neck on a chain. As far as williams, clark & co. lynn, mass. goes, they were the shoe company that made a brand of shoes called LA FRANCE.

    Nice fob.
