A plate?

I have no Idea what this is. It is the same size as a eagle breast plate although quite a bit heavier. It was dug is a spot where a US box plate, breast plate and belt plate all have been dug. I am thinking maybe horse tack? I dont have a clue. Some one help me out on this one.

I can get measurements if needed.
