    alfonso XIII coin ID

    hello everyone. i have a coin?/medal?/token? which i can't identify.
the obverse has the image of the young alfonsoXIII with the legend "ALFONSO XIII POR LA G. DE DIOS 1890"
the reverse has the spanish coat of arms with the legend "REI DE LAS ESPANAS FILIPINAS" i don't seem to
read a denomination value (ie peseta, peso, etc)
unfortunately, i have no photo of it but it's a small bronze-like coin similar to the attached image.
    any help is much appreciated.
    thanks...

    Re: alfonso XIII coin ID

The portrait appears to be the first one, c. 1889-91, as shown below.

(Note the fuller hair, and also the different curvature of the bust, on the one that Gypsy posted.)

    Filipinas
suggests that this piece was struck for circulation in the Philippines, which were under Spanish rule at that time.

    Re: alfonso XIII coin ID

Looks like PBK and Gypsy got the job done.

Bit off topic but them Alfansos' love to mint money.

    This is a Alfonso I, (The Battler), that I have. (1073 - 1134).
    (note the Crusader Cross)

Three years before his death, he made a will leaving
his kingdom to the Templars, the Hospitallers, and
the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre.

    His wish was not honored.

Just thought you might be interested.

    thanks a lot guys.
    it's a great help.
the coin is probably brass/bronze about the size of a dime
and until now, i can't find any info regarding it's mintage,
from the internet or elsewhere. at least i learned it's most likely a coin
    and not a medallion.
    thanks again guys... appreciated.

I've heard those coins called "babyheads", for rather obvious reasons. Alfonso was just a baby when he ascended the throne. Spain lost the Philippines to the United States during his reign, as a result of the Spanish-American War.

    Re: alfonso XIII coin ID

    Dear forum friends,

I finally got an image of the coin I need to identify and I'm posting it here. As you can see, I still haven't got the
real source of this coin. The central Bank of the Philippines has no record of it. I asked a spanish coin expert and he thinks it's one of Reginald Huth's coins. I'm really curious about this coin, so if you can help me identify it... many many thanks...
